RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year competition 2017
Our senior florist at Hilary's Floral Design, Charlotte competed at this years RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year competition against 15 other florists aged
over 26 yrs in May and was awarded a Silver-Gilt medal this year. Charlotte and the other 15 ladies were set the task of creating a floral kite based
on the title Summer Skies.
Charlotte's incredible kite with had real visual movement; the colours ranged through a mirriad of colours from purples and pinks to orange, gold andyellow with the dangling tassels repeating the colours. Sea horse test tubes were used as a water vessel for some of the plant material, whilst cold glue secured other material in place.
Handmade individual kites made from aluminium wire were playfully used throughout the design along with faux diamond shapes that adding a touch of sparkle to the fabulous design that also included: chrysanthemum, different types of orchids, spray roses, ranunculus, sandasonia, rolled stachys leaves, ceropegia woodii, anigozanthus, craspedia, eustoma, nerines, along with complimentary bright small feathers. The framework was made with the use of perspex, diamond cut curled aliuminium wire was also used as a bases for the plant material. The cascades of the kite contained more jewels which coordinated perfectly with the glass tubes and shapes used within the design.Images of Charlotte's award winning kite below:
